National Science Day, 2024 was observed by Dibrugarh University Research Scholars’ Association (DURSA)

National Science Day, 2024 was observed by Dibrugarh University Research Scholars’ Association (DURSA) on February 28, 2024 at Indira Miri Conference Hall and Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Bhavan, Dibrugarh University. The day-long program started at Indira Miri Conference Hall with an inaugural session followed by a special talk and several competitions. The inaugural session started with the University Anthem performed by a team of Research Scholars as well as students and lighting of lamp by distinguished guests. Dimonjyoti Bora, the President of DURSA, delivered his welcome address to the guests and participants present in the session. The inaugural speech was delivered by Prof.  Dipak Chetia, Dean of Research and Development followed by the speeches of Prof. Surajit Borkotokey, Dean of Student Affairs and Prof. Geetika Borah, Head of the Department, Department of Chemistry. A special talk on the topic”Evolution of Scientific Research in India: Pre-independence to the era of Artificial Intelligence” was delivered by Prof. Pankaj Das, FRSC, Coordinator of DST-PURSE and professor of Department of Chemistry. Jyotirmoyee Saikia, General Secretary of DURSA, delivered the vote of thanks.

In accordance with the program, an All Assam Poster-Making Competition was organized. The themes of the competition were ‘Science for Sustainable Future’ for Group A (Class VII to XII) and ‘Impact of Human Action on Environment’ for Group B (graduate and post-graduate level). More than twenty groups from several schools and colleges of different districts have participated in the event. The prizes of the competition were sponsored by Eminent Scientist Dr. Anil Kumar, FNA FASc, FNASc, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and three prestigious departments of Dibrugarh University viz. Department of Life Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Along with it, an All Assam Open Quiz Competition named ‘Quizzoscope 3.0’ was organized at Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Bhavan on the theme ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. More than eighty teams from different parts of the state participated in the competition making the event a grand success. The competition was conducted by two Quiz masters Dr. Jitu Ranjan Chetia, Senior Instrument Officer of Dibrugarh University and Mr. Sayantan Saikia from Guwahati. The winners of the competitions were awarded with prize money and certificates. An All Assam Essay Competition in two groups is also organized in accordance with the National Science Day. ‘Science for Sustainable Development’ was the theme for Group A, and ‘The Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Ecosystems: Challenges and Solutions’ was assigned as the theme for Group B. The result of the competition will be declared later as a large number of essays have been received. In commemoration of National Science Day, the Dibrugarh University Research Scholars Association has undertaken a noteworthy initiative to publish a series of science articles in the “Asom Aditya” newspaper. This endeavour aims to inspire the younger generation by featuring contributions from esteemed faculties and dedicated research scholars affiliated with Dibrugarh University.
