One Week National Workshop on Research Methodology” organised by Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University from 12-18 February, 2024

A One week-long National Workshop on “Research Methodology” was organized from 12-18 February, 2024 by the Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University. The objective of the workshop was to provide the Researchers a platform to explore on the different aspects of Research Methodology and Data analysis such as—the recent innovations, methods, concerns, practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis with the help of Statistical Software and so on. It also placed emphasis on Literature Review, Research Ethics and Plagiarism of Scientific write-ups. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kuki Kalpita Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University.

Research Scholars, Faculty Members, Scientists from various Colleges, Universities and Research Institutes from different states of the nation participated in the workshop. Dr. Manash Pratim Barman, Head, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University welcomed the participants from various institutions, the honourable dignitaries from the University itself, and last but not the least, the Resource Persons from different reputed institutions of the country. The workshop was virtually inaugurated by the honourable Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika. In his inspiring and thought-provoking speech, he briefly outlined the importance and application of advanced Statistical tools in Research. Prof. Sarat Chandra Kakaty, Dean, Faculty of Science & Engineering, Prof. Dipak Chetia, Dean, Research and Development and Prof. Deb Kumar Chakraborty, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Ankur Bharali, Director, IQAC, Dibrugarh University also shared their thoughts on the inaugural session of the workshop. 

The workshop consisted of twenty sessions, out of which seventeen lectures were conducted in offline mode whereas the rest of the three lectures were delivered via online mode.  The online lectures were delivered by the Resource Person Prof. Sumeer Gul, Department of Library and Information Science & In-charge Librarian of Allama Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir, Srinagar. Prof. Gul’s lectures were focused on “Writing and Publication of Research Papers in indexed journals” and “Identification of Reputed and Predatory journals”. Another Resource Person Prof. Probodh Borah, Professor and Head, Department of Animal Biotechnology, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agriculture University delivered two talks on “Research Ethics and Plagiarism” & “Retrieval of Scientific Literature for effective Review”. Dr. Subhasis Ray from Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata delivered three talks on “Statistical Inference and Sampling” with the help of the software SPSS. Prof. Sarat Ch. Kakaty, Professor, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University delivered a talk on “Application of Statistical tools in Research Methodology” and Prof. Utpal Das, Librarian of Dibrugarh University delivered a talk on “Modern Research and Consequences of AI based text in Research outputs”. Dr. Manash Pratim Barman, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University has also done two classes on “Introduction to the Software SPSS” and its hands-on training. Dr. Palash Dutta, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics delivered a talk on “Introduction to LaTex” and Dr Nomi Baruah, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology delivered a talk on the “Software Mendeley”. Dr. Arnab Narayan Patowary, Assistant Professor, Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics, College of Fisheries, Assam Agriculture University delivered a talk on “Time Series Analysis of data with help of the software SPSS”. Dr. Partha Jyoti Hazarika, Dr. Kuldeep Goswami & Dr. Kuki Kalpita Mahanta, Assistant Professors in the Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University also delivered their talks on “Correlation and Regression Analysis”, “Non-Parametric Analysis” and “Multiple & Logistic Regression Analysis” and its Hands-on training respectively with the help of the software SPSS.

The valedictory session was conducted at the end of all the sessions on 18th February. The participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers. Positive feedback from the participants brought the workshop to a successful ending.
