National Seminar on Management Practices for Sustainable Development Goals held at Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University

Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University (CMSDU) organized a National Seminar on Management Practices for Sustainable Development Goals (MPSDG 2024) on 15 & 16 February, 2024. Prof. Dipak Chetia, Dean, Research & Development, Dibrugarh University was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session while Mr. Pranjal Changmai, MD, BCPL gave the keynote address. Prof. Chetia gave his insights on the 17 SDGs and the importance of the seminar theme in that context. Mr. Changmai during his address not only talked about the SDGs but also dwelt on how BCPL is trying to be sustainable surmounting the many challenges. Prof. Pratim Barua, Chairperson of CMSDU gave the welcome address in the inaugural session. He said that the Centre said that the seminar theme was selected after a lot of deliberations. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Himadri Barman, Assistant Professor, CMSDU who was the Chief Coordinator of the seminar.

In all, three technical sessions were held – two on the first day and one on the second day. The technical sessions were chaired by Prof. Deb Kumar Chakraborty from the Department of Economics, Dibrugarh University; Prof. Rinalini Pathak Kakati from the Department of Business Administration, Gauhati University and Prof. Anjan Bhuyan from the Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University respectively. 36 extended abstracts were submitted for the national seminar out of which 22 papers were scheduled for presentation in the three technical sessions. 18 papers were presented by the researchers. The scheduled presenters were from Assam University, Silchar; Assam University, Diphu Campus; Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat; Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management, Sivasagar;  The Assam Kaziranga University; Assam Women’s University, Jorhat; Dibrugarh University; Gauhati University; IIT, Guwahati; MDKG College, Dibrugarh; Nagaland University; NIT, Silchar; Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati and Tezpur University.

Mr. Jamal Hussain, a full-time research scholar of the Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University received the Best Paper Award which carried a cash prize of Rs. 5000-. It was sponsored by Samannay – the CMSDU Alumni Association. The other sponsors of the seminar were Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). As informed by Dr. Himadri Barman, selected papers from the seminar will be published in a special issue of Vanijya, the journal published by the Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University. For the first time in the University, an exclusive website was used specifically for the seminar. For managing the submissions also, the Conference Management Toolkit (CMT) from Microsoft was used for the first time.
