E-Workshop on Yoga for Health & Fitness and Observation of International Yoga Day

In compliance with the observation of 7th International Day of Yoga 2021, the Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports, Dibrugarh University has organized One Week State level E-Workshop on Yoga for Health and Fitness from 16.06.2021 to 21.06.2021 in virtual mode vide ZOOM platform. During the workshop in six technical sessions, the resource persons respectively Mr. Mahendra Singh Dhilon, the Yoga Expert from Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University enlightened the participant on the topic “Yoga: a gift to Humankind. During his deliberation he stressed on yoga asana and how yoga asana can influence an individual health. He also practised the participants with selected asana with their indications and contraindication. Dr. Vivek Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, Sri Murali Manohar Town PG College, Ballia,UP in technical session two delivered valuable information on the topic “The Science of Breathing and Pranayama” with its practical implications. In his speech he highlighted on physiological aspects of breathing exercise and pranayama.

On the third day of the workshop Mr. Bikash Boruh, Alumni of CSPES, DU M. Phil Scholar, & Yoga Practitioner and Mr. Rajkumar Bharali, Assistant Professor CSPES, DU were enlightened the participants on the :Yoga and its impact on Pandemic (Covid-19) Situation” and “Yoga Nidra: A Scientific Approach for Mental Well-being” respectively. In his speech Mr. Bikash Boruah recommended few selected asana and pranayama to practice. Moreover he also conducted practice session on those selected asana and pranayama. On the other hand Mr. Bharali highlighted on how Yoga Nidra helps to achieve mental well-being. 

Another resource person Mr. Sumit Kr. Thapa. Trained nutritionist and Lecturer, DIET, Titabor, Jorhat, Assam delivered lecture about “Preparation of Diet Plan”. In his deliberation Mr. Thapa guided the participants how to calculate calorie requirement and to prepare the diet chart for themselves accordingly.  However, Mr. Satya Changmai, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports, DU kept his lecture on “Yoga for Health and Well-being”. During his lecture he focused on yogic ways of living healthy lifestyles which helps a person to achieve the state of well-being.

In the last technical session of the E-Workshop Mr Bikash Boruah delivered lecture on the topic “Effect of Selected Pranayama on Diabetes Mellitus Types 2, Hypertension, Mental Stress and Depression”. He gave a discrete idea about healthy diet (aahar) and some selected yogic practice to overcome from the psychosomatic disease. During his session for participants he emphasised on the procedures of performing all those pranaymas along with demonstration and practice.   The one week State Level E-Workshop was started a beautiful inaugural ceremony. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Kandarpa Kumar Deka, the former Vice Chancellor Dibrugarh University and former Vice-Chancellor of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva Viswavidyalya, Nagaon as a Chief Guest. In his speech he highlighted about the necessity and impact of Yoga as whole in process of achieving the health fitness and well being of humans. Moreover he also focuses on how yoga been came to in existence in Indian Culture. During the ceremony guest of honouer Prof. Daisey Bora Talukdar, Dean, Faculty of Education also delivered a valuable speech on importance of Yoga in present context. Dr. Mantu Baro, Director In-charge of the Centre and Chairperson of the event delivered well come speech.   

As the E-workshop has been organized in compliance with the observation of International Day of Yoga the valedictory programme cum Celebration of International Yoga Day conducted on 21.06.2021. Prof. L.K. Nath, Vice-chancellor in-charge, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Registrar, Dibrugarh University and Prof. Nirode Borua Dean, Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University grace the occasion as invited dignitaries. Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Registrar, delivered the welcome address where he opined on the theme of International Yoga Day 2021 and the relevance of the E-Workshop in achieving the said theme. In chief guest speech, Prof. L. K. Nath, Vice-Chancellor In-charge highlighted on the significance and relevance of E-Workshop and observation of International Yoga Day to fight against the pandemic situation. He also reminds the responsibility of university to take imitative to organize such type of programmes for the betterment of human kind. He expresses his gratitude to the organizers for taking the meaningful initiative.   Prof. Nirode Borauh, Dean Student Affairs of the university also highlighted about the historical existence of Yoga in India and how it has been recognized in entire world. He also appeal all to include yoga in every ones daily routine to keep themselves healthy and fit. Dr. Mantu Baro summarized the entire E-Workshop briefly. Afterwards, as a part of the observation of International Yoga Day, Mr. Mahender Singh Dhilan made the programme fruitful and meaningful in true sense by guiding the participants to perform Yoga Protocols where the participants were performed actively and enthusiastically. From the participants Dr. Manju Chetia Das, Lecturer DIET, Kamrup and former Women Cricketer and Selector of Assam Cricket Association, Mrs. Manjumoni Khanikar, Headmistress, Barpther Boys High School, Dibrugarh, Mr. Ushamoni Bhuyan expressed their sincere gratitude for organizing such fruitful workshops. Around 400 participants were participated in the said programme.   

Mr. Satya Changmi and Mr. Rajkumar Bharali moderated the opening ceremony and closing ceremony respectively and Dr. O Jiten Singh, Associate Professor and Chief Co-ordinator of the event offer vote of thanks to all concern in both opening and closing ceremony. Special thanks also expressed to Mr. Gunadeep Chetia, Progammer, Dibrugarh University and Technical Adviser of the event and Mr. Sachindra Lal Bhuyan, Senior Sports Journalist and Media Adviser of the event for their constant guidance to conclude the event successfully.
