National Seminar on Changing Paradigms in Education: Possibilities and Challenges

A two-day National Seminar on “Changing Paradigms in Education: Possibilities and Challenges” was organised by the Department of Education, Dibrugarh University on 11th and 12th February, 2020.

The seminar started with the Inaugural Programme graced by honourable Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Ranjit Tamuli along with keynote speaker Padma Vibhushan Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, Former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation and Chairperson of the committee to draft National Education Policy 2019 and Prof. Santosh Panda, Former Chairman of the statutory National Council for Teacher Education. The Inaugural Programme was chaired by Prof. Daisy Bora Talukdar, Dean, Faculty of Education, Dibrugarh University.

The Inaugural session started with felicitation of the guests followed by welcome address by Prof. Manashee Gogoi, President of the Seminar Organising Committee & Head, Department of Education, Dibrugarh University. Prof. Gogoi welcomed all the dignitaries, presenters and all present in the programme. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ranjit Tamuli. The inaugural speech was delivered by Prof. Ranjit Tamuli. He appreciated the seminar theme on possibilities and challenges of the changing paradigms in education. Following this, the Souvenir cum Abstract was released by Prof. Santosh Panda. The keynote speech of the National Seminar was delivered by Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturirangan. In his keynote address, Dr. Kasturirangan discussed the nature and rationales of liberal art education, multidisciplinary higher educational institutions etc in the light of the new National Education Policy 2019.  The Presidential address was delivered by Prof. Daisy Bora Talukdar, Dean, and Faculty of Education. The inaugural programme ended with vote of thanks.

The second day of the National Seminar started with Panel Discussion chaired by Prof. Santosh Panda. In the Panel discussion speakers were Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturirangan and Prof. S.M. Sungoh. In the discussion, Dr. K. Kasturirangan delivered his speech on the changing paradigms in education in the light of the new National Education Policy 2019. Prof. S. Panda delivered speech on the changing paradigms in Teacher Education. Prof. S.M. Sungoh delivered speech on evaluation in the context of its changing paradigms in Education. The speeches were followed by question, discussion and view points of the participants and speakers.

Following this, three parallel technical sessions were conducted chaired by Prof. Gopal Ch. Hazarika, Prof. P.K Gogoi and Prof. Daisy Bora Talukdar. Another three post-lunch parallel technical sessions were conducted chaired by Prof. Neeta Kalita Barua, Prof. Deb Kr. Chakraborty and Prof. Mukut Hazarika. Out of 112 papers, 75 papers were presented in the technical sessions. Participants from different parts of the country including academicians, research scholars and students presented their papers. The technical session was followed by valedictory session chaired by Prof. Manashee Gogoi, President, Seminar Organising Committee. Certificates were distributed by the guests. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Pranjal Buragohain, Organizing Secretary of the seminar and Asst. Professor, Department of Education, Dibrugarh University.
