Profile

Centre for Computer Science and Applications (formerly known as Centre for Computer Studies) is one of the premier institutes of North-East-India imparting computer education.Dibrugarh University initiated its journey of imparting computer education by establishing a Computer Centre in 1976. The Computer Centre was established with the objective of creating Computer awareness among the teachers, research scholars and employees of the University. It started Computer education by introducing a “Six-months Certificate Course on Computer Programming”. It also trained the employees of various banks including State Bank of India, Dibrugarh university Branch and helped them in computerization. In 2004, it was upgraded to the Centre for Computer Studies (CCS) and a “Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA)” course was started. BCA was introduced in July, 2004 and MCA and BSc (IT) were introduced in January and July, 2007, respectively. In 2018, the name of the centre has been changed to “Centre for Computer Science and Applications”.

Programmes and Curriculam

 

Programmes offered:

(A) Master of Computer Application (MCA):  A Two (02) Year Master Degree Program including Four (04) Semesters. Selection procedure for MCA program is through an Entrance Test.
Intake Capacity       : 30 (3 Endowments)
Eligibility Criteria    : Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/ Institution with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks and passing Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2. Relaxation of 5% marks will be given to the candidates of reserved categories.

(B) Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA): A Three (03) Year Degree Program including Six (06) Semester. Selection procedure for BCA program is on Merit Basis.
Intake Capacity      : 60 (6 Endowments)
Eligibility Criteria    : Passed Higher Secondary (10+2) examination securing minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and passing Mathematics/ Commercial Arithmetic /Statistics as one of the subjects. Relaxation of 5% marks will be given to the candidates of reserved categories.

(C) Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA): A One (01) Year Diploma Program in Computer Application including Two (02) Semester. Selection procedure for PGDCA program is on Merit Basis
Intake Capacity        : 120 (40 Each Shift)
Eligibility Criteria    : Graduate in any discipline recognized by Dibrugarh University with minimum 40% marks.  Relaxation of 5% marks will be given to the candidates of reserved categories.

(D) Ph. D. in Computer Science

(A) Completed: University Grants Commission (UGC), Minor Research Project on “An improved Mishing grapheme-to-phoneme conversion using statistical and linguistic information”. Principal Investigator: Mr. Rizwan Rehman.
(B) Completed: University Grants Commission (UGC), Innovative Research Project on “Game Theoretical Approaches Towards Biological Module Extraction”. Principal Investigator: Prof. Surajit Borkotokey. Former Chairperson, CCSA

Activities

Besides regular teaching and learning in the classroom, the faculty members and students of Centre for Computer Science and Applications keep themselves involved in many educational and social activities. The faculty members are pursuing their research works and they keep themselves upgraded by attending national and international workshops and conferences. They are also involved in software development and computerization of Directorate of Distance education (DU), Examination Branch (DU), Counselling and Admission procedure of students of the University, Election of Post-Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU) etc. The students also develop software’s and websites for different departments/organizations inside and outside the University. The Centre organizes Computer Awareness Programmes for school students of neighboring areas of the University. The Centre has also conducted a number of training Programmes for University employees and Bank employees.

Industry Academia Programme

  • Mr. Mukul Madhab Baishya, IBM, Kolkata was invited to interact with the students under 3 days Techno conclave program during October, 2015.
  • On 5th October, 2015 Mr Hrishikesh Dewan, Siemens, Bangalore was invited to talk to the students under Guest Lecture programme.
  • Mr. Jayanta Bora and Mr.  Achyut Krishna Hazarika , Zaloni, GHY were invited under Guest Lecture programme 28th March,2016
  • Mr. Phil Tuskar and Mr. Lalit Yagnik, IBM, Australia were invited to Interact with the students under industry academia programme during April, 2016.
  • Prof. Malay Dutta, IIIT, GHY was invited to a talk on “NP-Hard Problems” during November, 2016.
  • Mr. Akash Pratim Barua, IOCL[AOD], Digboi was invited during September, 2016 to interact with the students under industry academia programme
  • A Talk on “Preparation for Interview” by Tridiv Hazarika, Manager, PR & CC, OIL, Duliajan(26th November, 2013)
  • Organized Tech-Talk on 10th May, 2013 in association with Placement Cell, DU where Gautam Gandhi from Google India and M. K. Yadav, MD, Amtron delevered talks

Events organized

  • Anazori: Anazori is a technical cum cultural extravegenga organized by Centre for Computer Studies, Dibrugarh University. It started of in the year 2008 within the univerity students and has gradually evolved into a large event with increasing number of footfalls each passing year. Now students from prominent institutions of the state like AEC, JEC, Tezpur University, GIMT, JIST, RIST, JB College and NL College have been regular participents in the various events.
  • Workshop on Robotics during 15-16 October, 2011 in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur and Robosapiens India.
  • Workshop on Algorithms for Wireless Networks during 8th -10th of Feb’, 2012 in collaboration with ISI, Kolkata.
  • Workshop on LaTeX during 4th – 6th January, 2016.
  • Workshop on Outcome Based Learning for Introduction to Computing on 27th February, 2016 I in collaboration with IIT GHY under Google’s CS4HS Award Program.
  • Workshop on Teaching Skills during 18th – 20th March, 2016.
