Training & Placement activities are considered an integral process at Dibrugarh University since the year 2008. This Cell is consistently engaged in providing training and placement support to the students of the University. The cell is equipped with a separate office space, computing facility and well-furnished separate interview room and conference hall, etc. to cater to the needs of the various departments of the University related to training and placement activities. The cell endeavours to provide placement assistance to the final semester students who are pursuing different programmes of studies in the University. It also facilitates summer and winter internships, skill development training, specialised lectures, career counselling programs, etc. for the benefit of the students. The Cell also strives to promote strong networking with corporate organizations and other external agencies so as to maximise various career related opportunities for the students of the University.
Special emphasis is being given to enhance the soft skills of the students along with their hard skills.
Thus, the core thrust areas of the cell encompasses the following:
To organize on/off campus recruitment drive.
To obtain slots for Summer & Winter internships and organize industrial visits.
To forge strong alliance between the University and business entities so as to maximize career related opportunities for the students.
To increase the employability of the students by imparting skill-based training programs.
1.1 DIBRUGARH UNIVERSITY CAMPUS PLACEMENT POLICY:
In order to streamline the placement procedure and afford equal, just and fair opportunities to all categories of students (High / Average/ Poor), the following guidelines shall be observed:
Students appearing for final semester examinations will be considered by the Placement Cell only through individual registration in the 'placement database'.
Final semester students who have cleared all the registered courses till the date of the concerned programme will only be allowed to participate in the on/off campus recruitment drive.
Once a student is confirmed by a company as selected, he/she will not be allowed to participate in any further placement activity of an equivalent company.
B. Tech students, if selected by a company other than their core competency company, will be allowed a second chance for participating in campus placement by a core company. For example, if a B. Tech (Mech) student gets selected by an IT company (say Infosys, TCS, etc.), he/she will be allowed a second chance whenever a core Mechanical company conducts a placement drive.
To be fair to the students already selected, a second chance may be provided to participate in the selection process of another company which offers a higher package by at least Rs. 2.0 lakhs per annum than the package offered by the company where they have already been placed. This is applicable for the routine recruitment drives.
Students who get selected on their own effort, if desired, will be afforded opportunities to participate in all campus placement drives till finally selected, irrespective of package differential.
A student, who confirms participation in a placement event (on/off campus) and thereafter absents himself without valid reasons, will not be allowed to participate in the next placement drive (one-time debarring). This is to discourage absenteeism, which causes embarrassment to the Faculties and the T&P Cell of the University. This penalty may be waived off at the sole discretion of the concerned authority of the University based on the merit of a case.
All students will be permitted to appear for the recruitment and selection process as and when a 'Dream Company' (PSUs, Maharatna/Navaratna Companies, Government entities, etc.) organizes a recruitment drive, even if they have been selected earlier by a different company. However, the status of a particular company as Dream Company may be announced at the sole discretion of the TP cell.
Further, if a recruiting company puts up a request to the TP cell that they will recruit from the University under the conditions that the selected students are required to be debarred from participating in any future campus recruitment, then he/she may not be allowed to participate in such a drive. This may be done to protect the relationship with the concerned corporate organization.
1.2 STUDENTS SUMMER/WINTER INDUSTRIAL TRAINING POLICY:
The University offers a range of courses with multiple specialisations which requires mandatory real-life exposure through internship opportunities. The Cell endeavours to provide such exposures to the students in reputed Corporate and Social sector organizations by adopting the following guidelines:
The training preference will be given to those students who could not undertake mandatory industrial training during the previous semester.
The students are advised to take their faculty placement coordinators’ approval and contact the prospective organizations for undergoing such training, before putting any training request to the T&P Cell. They are also advised to furnish contact details of the training officer of the concerned training departments/organizations to the T&P Cell, DU for the necessary follow up.
Each student from the Petroleum/Mechanical/ECE/CSE branch of DUIET shall be allowed to apply for summer / winter industrial training to a maximum of 3 companies during the current training season.
The T&P Cell will process training requests in upstream oil sector companies only once for the DUIET petroleum engineering branch students either in 5 th or 6 th semester, as training opportunities are highly limited in the upstream sector.
In case of MA / MBA (FT) / MTTM / MSW / M.Tech / MCA / M.Sc, a student must have completed / appeared for the 2 nd semester or first year. In case of Law, a student must have completed / appeared 6(six) semesters or 3rd year in case of 5 (years) integrated course. For BCA, a student must have completed / appeared 4(four) semesters or 2nd year of study.
For DUIET, students who have already completed their training once in the 5 th semester shall be eligible for training opportunities in the 6 th semester only after accommodating previously deprived students.
The TP Cell will process training requests in upstream oil sector companies only once for the DUIET petroleum engineering branch students either in 5 th or 6 th semester, as training opportunities are highly limited in the upstream sector.
The TP Cell may find it difficult to process internship request in PSU (Public Sector Undertakings) for the foreign students pursuing B.Tech/M.Tech in the University due to security clearance issues by the central security agencies as informed by these undertakings. Therefore, the concerned Departments/DUIET may advise such students to seek training opportunities in the private sector only.
1.3 CHECKLIST FOR THE RECRUITING ORGANIZATION:
The recruiting organizations are required to communicate well in advance with the Training and Placement Officer for coordinating any campus recruitment drive in the University.
The recruiting organizations shall have to furnish the relevant details pertaining to Job profile, designation, salary PA, mode of selection and other terms and conditions of employment with the Training and Placement Cell before conducting any campus recruitment drive.
The Training and Placement Cell shall provide with the recruiting organizations the list of interested eligible students and their CVs based on the job profiles shared by the recruiting organizations and aptitude of the students.
The campus recruitment in the concerned Departments and Centre for Studies shall be governed by the DIBRUGARH UNIVERSITY CAMPUS PLACEMENT POLICY mentioned in clause 1.1 mentioned above.
The recruiting organizations also need to furnish the selection result and confirm the date of joining of the selected students preferably within 15 days of conducting the campus interview.
