Celebration of 18th National Statistics Day at Dibrugarh University

On 29th June, 2024 National Statistics Day was celebrated in Dibrugarh University on the occasion of 131st Birth anniversary of Father of Indian Statistics “Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis” at Indira Miri Conference hall organised by Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University. Prof. M. P. Barman, Head, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University delivered the welcome speech and the Honourable Vice- Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Prof. J Hazarika Inaugurated the event. Prof. S. Borkotokey, Dean Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Girish Sharma, Retired faculty of Department of Statistics, Aajya Vidyapith College, Guwahati, present as a guest of honour in the event and shared their valuable thoughts. The prizes of state level online essay writing competition organized by Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University were also distributed in the event. The 1st position was secured by Mr. Rohit Daimary, student of Assam Down Town University, Guwahati, 2nd position was secured by Mr Akashdeep Tamuli, student of Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University and 3rd position was secured by Ms Mrinalini Majumder, Student of Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali. After the inaugural program, A talk on P.C Mahalanobis was delivered by Ms. Anupama Nandi, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics and A talk on the importance of the subject Statistics and its future scope was delivered by Dr. Kuki Kalpita Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics. A total of 70 students of class X from Gyan Vigyan Academy, Dibrugarh along with two faculty members participated in the event. Faculty members from various departments and centre for studies of Dibrugarh University, Students and Research scholars of Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University also present in the event. Dr. Kuki Kalpita Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University coordinated the whole Program. Positive feedback from the participants brought the event to a successful ending.
