On 29th June, 2023 Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University and National Sample Survey Office (FOD), Regional office, Dibrugarh jointly organised the “National Statistics Day-2023” on the occasion of 130th Birth anniversary of father of Indian Statistics “Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis” at Indira Miri Conference hall. Dr. M. P. Barman, HoD, Department of Statistics delivered the welcome speech and the honorable Vice- chancellor of Dibrugarh University Prof. J Hazarika Inaugurated the event. Prof. D. Chetiya, Dean Research and Development, Prof. S. C. Kakaty, Dean Faculty of Science and Engineering, Prof. S. Borkotoky, Dean Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Bipin Gogoi, senior Professor, Department of Statistics, Mr. Subrata Das, Assistant Director, NSO(FOD)RO, Dibrugarh present as a guest of honour in the event and shared their valuable thoughts. The prizes of a state level online essay writing competition organized by the Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University were also distributed in the event. The 1st position was secured by Mr. Sahil Ansari, student of DHSK College, Dibrugarh, 2nd position was secured by Mr Subhranhshu Nath, student of Cashar College, Silchar and 3rd position was secured by Ms Jyotimoni Sahu, Student of department of statistics, Dibrugarh University. After the inaugural program A talk on P.C Mahalanobis was delivered by Prof. J. Hazarika, honourable Vice- chancellor of Dibrugarh University and A talk on the importance of the subject Statistics and its future scope was delivered by Dr. K.K. Mahanta and Dr. K. Goswami. A total of 80 students of class IX and X from Dibrugarh University models School along with Mr. Dilip Gohain, senior faculty, Dibrugarh University model school participated in the event. Faculty members from various departments and centres for studies of Dibrugarh University, Members from NSO(FOD) RO, Dibrugarh, Faculty members, Students and Research scholars of Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University also present in the event. Positive feedback from the participants brought the workshop to a successful ending.
