The Dibrugarh University Health Centre was first established in 1971 with a full-time Pharmacist and visiting Physicians of the Assam Medical College and Hospital. The need for a better equipped Health Centre led to the construction of a two storied building in April 2008 and by March 2009 the Health Centre was shifted to this new building with 10 beds, a Minor Operation Theater with attached sterilizing room and a Laboratory.
The Health Centre is currently functioning on an out Patient basis. It remains open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all days of the week except Sundays and other official holidays. Beyond these hours, any emergency is attended by the Resident Medical Officer with the assistance of a Staff Nurse and a Pharmacist who reside in quarters near the Health Centre building.
The Health Centre provides 24 hours free Ambulance services on all days and 2 Ambulances ply round the clock for this purpose.
