CENTRE FOR SOCIAL WORK STUDIES

The Centre for Social Work Studies(CSWS) has been established in the year 2010 against demands for the introduction of long pending and much needed professional course like Master of Social Work(MSW) in the Dibrugarh University. The Centre aims at producing professional and skillful manpower to accommodate in various public and private sectors of the country. The MSW course is designed to train such personnel to fulfill the demands of the time. The mission of the Centre for Social Work Studies at Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh is emphasis to educate competent and ethical social workers who are prepared to serve as leaders for desired change in a dynamic and diverse society. The Centre transcends boundaries by using pedagogical methods and applied strategies that make learning more accessible. The Centre guides students to create and refine culturally competent, consumer-oriented intervention strategies that enhance personal and organizational well-being and a more just society, particularly for vulnerable and often-forgotten people of all ages.
At present, the Centre is offering Masters Degree in Social Work with two specializations, namely Community Development and Human Resource Management respectively. However, besides these specializations, the Centre also feels the responsibility to provide its services in relation to other relevant specializations of Professional Social Work education like Medical and Psychiatry and Family and Child Welfare.

Programme Offered :

1. Master of Social Work(MSW)
(a) A Bachalor’s degree under the 10+2+3 pattern form a recognized University securing a minimum of 45% Marks in Major or in Aggregate (40% for candidates from Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes).
Candidates whose results for the qualifying examinations are not yet declared may also apply, provided that she/he is confident of fulfilling all the criteria for admission and is able to submit the original mark-sheets before the admission process is completed.
(b) Preference shall be given to candidates from North Eastern States.
Duration of the Programme : MSW 2(Two) Years (Four Semesters)
Intake Capaciy : 25 (Twenty five)
Application and Admission Procedure : Selection of Candidate for admission will be made through a one and half hour written (50 Marks) followed by Group Discussion (20 Marks) and Personal Interview (30 Marks). Only qualified candidates secruing minimum 45% marks in Written Test will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The Written test will access a candidate’s knowledge on the sensitivity to contemnporary social issues, general knowledge and analytical ability of English . The duration of Group Discussion would be of 20 (twenty) minutes.
To qualify for Admission, the candidate is required to secure a minimum of 40% Marks seperately in the Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The candidates will be selected strictly on merit basis( in order of Marks obtained in Admission Test).The Selected candidate shall have to produce all the testimonials in original and a medical Certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner vouching the candidate’s fitness at the time of Admission.

2. Ph.D. Programme in Social Work :
The Doctor of Philosophy(Ph.D) Programme has been introduced in Social Work from 2012. The candidate having Master Degree in Slocial Work(MSW) from any recognized University with 50% Marks or equivalent Grade Point and must clear DURAT and Six months Ph.D Pre-Registration Course Work or M.Phil from any recognized University. Besides, other admissiion regulations/criteria needed for pursuing Doctoral Programme in Dibrugarh University are also applcable to pursue Ph.D. in Social Work
