Health Centre

The Dibrugarh University Health Centre was first established in 1971 with a full-time Pharmacist and visiting Physicians of the Assam Medical College and Hospital. A full-time Medical Officer was appointed after 2 years in 1973. A regular compounder was provided in 1979 and a Medical Attendant cum Peon was employed in 1982. At present there are 18 staff’ members at the Health Centre. In 1982 the Health Centre was shifted from a temporary building near the Old main entrance of the University to an Assam type building in front of the Girls’ Hostel. The need for a better equipped Health Centre led to the construction of a two storied building in April 2008 and by March 2009 the Health Centre was shifted to this new building with 20 beds, a Minor Operation Theater with attached sterilizing room and a Laboratory.

The Health Centre is currently functioning on an out Patient basis. It remains open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all days of the week except Sundays and other official holidays. Beyond these hours, any emergency is attended by the Senior Resident Medical Officer.
