The Dibrugarh University Health Centre was first established in 1971 with a full-time Pharmacist and visiting Physicians of the Assam Medical College and Hospital. A full-time Medical Officer was appointed after 2 years in 1973. A regular compounder was provided in 1979 and a Medical Attendant cum Peon was employed in 1982.  At present there are 18 staff’ members at the Health Centre. In 1982 the Health Centre was shifted from a temporary building near the Old main entrance of the University to an Assam type building in front of the Girls’ Hostel. The need for a better equipped Health Centre led to the construction of a two storied building in April 2008 and by March 2009 the Health Centre was shifted to this new building with 20 beds, a Minor Operation Theater with attached sterilizing room and a Laboratory.

The Health Centre is currently functioning on an out Patient basis. It remains open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all days of the week except Sundays and other official holidays. Beyond these hours, any emergency is attended by the Senior Resident Medical Officer.

The Health Centre provides 24 hours free Ambulance services on all days and 3 Ambulances ply round the clock for this purpose .

  • Health Centre operates mainly on an OPD basis .It provides facilities to students ,employees and teaching and non teaching staff of University community and also extends its services to nearby community surrounding the Dibrugarh University Campus .Health Centre operates its OPD hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Sundays and holidays . For special occasions/services like  University Week, Inter College tournaments, State level tournaments etc… Health Centre extends it services beyond its regular time irrespective of Sundays and holidays.
  • Health Centre also provides daycare indoor services with I.V. infusion and other injection, palliative care etc..
  • Health Centre provides emergency Medical care after its normal OPD hours with the help of the Senior Resident Medical Officer.
  • Health Centre provides Medicines to the University community free of cost and these are purchased by utilizing funds from the Annual Budget. Medicines cover almost all the commonly occurring ailments as well as emergency services.
  • Health Centre is also facilitated with minor O.T. room where minor operations and dressing are done on regular basis.

 

LABORATORY SERVICES .: Health Centre has a well equipped Laboratory where a number of diagnostic procedures are undertaken such as:-

  1. Routine Examinations of Blood, Urine and Stool.
  2. Malaria Parasite Detection.
  3. Blood Group.
  4. Biochemical tests like:
    • Blood Glucose
    • Blood Urea
    • Serum Uric Acid
    • Lipid Profile
  5. E. C. G.

COMMUNITY SERVICES: Community services are undertaken from time to time by holding various camps in association with other departments and social service groups etc. Health Awareness camps are also organized from time to time.
