Professor Ranjit Tamuli assumed the charge of the Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University on July 18, 2018.
Prof. Ranjit Tamuli obtained his Master Degree in Commerce in 1984 and Ph.D. in 1995 from Gauhati University, Assam. Before joining as Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, he was a faculty, Department of Commerce in Lakhimpur Commerce College, Assam for a period of 10 years (1985 to 1995) and then he joined as a faculty, Department of Commerce, Rajiv Gandhi University, which was earlier known as Arunachal University where he was working for a period of 23 years, i.e., from 3rd August, 1995 to 17th July, 2018.
Prof. Tamuli was the founder member for the establishment of the Department of Commerce and Department of Management in 1995 and 2005 respectively at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), one of the Central Universities in North Eastern Region. During the 23 years of his service in that University, he was the Head, Department of Commerce for a period of 10 years and also the Head, Department of Management for a period of 9 years. As a Chairman of the Board of Post Graduate Studies (BPGS) and Board of Under Graduate Studies (BUGS), he had to take the responsibility for the preparation as well as revision of the syllabi in both the course structures of Under Graduate and Post Graduate level in Commerce and Management.
Prof. Tamuli was also the Dean, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies for two terms, i.e., 6 years and also the member of all types of Statutory Committees like Executive Council, Academic Council, Finance Committee as well as Selection Committee.
Initially, Prof. Tamuli was the Faculty / Professor in the Department of Commerce, but in the year 2012, he joined as Professor, Department of Management. However, as desired by the University, he had to take lot of academic and administrative responsibilities during 23 years of service at RGU. Among those, many of the times, he was given the responsibility of Finance Officer, Registrar, Controller of Examinations and Vice¬-Chancellor i/c. Before joining as the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University on 18th July, 2018, he was the Controller of Examinations of RGU on deputation.
During the long period of academic and administrative life, he has been continuously devoting his time for research and other academic activities. So far, he has produced 16 Ph.D. scholars under his supervision and the work of many of the fresh scholars are also in progress. Beside this, Prof. Tamuli has completed 3 major projects with financial assistance from the Central Government agencies, written 3 books and also published a good number of research papers in International and National level journals. He has also vast experiences of serving as Chairperson, Resource Person, Keynote Speaker as well as Paper Presenter in many Seminars and Workshops organized by various institutions.
Prof. Tamuli has also served as Member of Statutory Bodies of various Universities, especially in the Universities of North East Region of India and also is extending his service as Chairperson of the NAAC Peer Team as and when requested by the NAAC. Prof. Tamuli is also the recipient of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee National Eminent Academician Award, 2019 by the Chanakya Foundation, New Delhi.
