The Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on the 3rd of November, 2022. There was a list of events to mark the occasion. The celebration started with the hosting of the Departmental Flag by Prof. Seema S Singha, the Head, Department of Commerce, followed by the singing of the Departmental Song by the M.Com. Students. After that, there was a plantation programme organized by the Department whereby the faculties, research scholars and the students of the department engaged themselves in planting fruit trees on the premises of the department.
The programme was followed by launching of the 17th edition of the magazine “Bandhan”, a magazine by the students of M.Com. 3rd semester. An Intra-Departmental Business Quiz Competition followed this event. Ms. Bishakha Chetia and Ms. Barsha Kalita, two department faculties, were the quizmasters. The quiz consisted of 6 teams of 6 members, each comprising evenly distributed students of both 1st and 3rd semesters. Certificates and trophies were given to the winning and runners-up teams.
The highlight of the programme was the celebration of the 3rd ARM Rehman Memorial Lecture held in the Indira Miri Conference Hall of Dibrugarh University. Mr Gautam Bardoloi, a notable social entrepreneur, was the guest speaker on the programme. He gave a lecture on a very pertinent topic, “Entrepreneurship as a tool for Sustainable Employment”. The programme was attended by Prof. Dipak Chetia, the Dean of Research and Development; Faculty members, research scholars and students of the Department of Commerce. Ms. Bishakha Chetia was the anchor of the programme. The programme started with the felicitation of the guests with an Assamese Gamusha and a Token of Appreciation. This was followed by a welcome speech by Prof. Seema S. Singha and a memorable speech by Prof. Dipak Chetia. After that, Mr Gautam Bardoloi took the stage to address the audience on the topic of discussion. Addressing the audience about his life of struggle and success as a social entrepreneur, he highlighted many problems faced by employers in keeping up with sustainable employment. He also gave some valuable feedback on how one should act and behave if one wants to be an entrepreneur. The programme was followed by a question-and-answer session whereby Mr. Bardoloi answered some of the queries of the audience. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bipasha Chetiya Barua. The programme ended with lighting of 44 diyas outside the department to mark the 44th foundation day.
