World Tourism Day 2022 Observed at CMSDU

The World Tourism Day 2022 was observed at Centre for Management Studies on 27 September, 2022 in a befitting manner. The theme for 2022 World Tourism Day was Rethinking Tourism. It was led by the students of the MTTM programme of the Centre. In the morning, a cycle rally with the theme “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature” was held.  The rally covered the route: University Campus – Chowkidingee Field – Mancotta Road – Dibrugarh Bypass – Barbaruah – University Campus. There were about 40 participants including faculty members. The main objective of the rally was to create awareness about the impact of human activities on nature and how to overcome the negative consequences. Various placards containing awareness messages were displayed by the cyclists in the rally. Later on, an Orchid plantation programme was carried out in the premises of the Centre. Three different species of orchids were put up in the trees of the campus – Dendrobium Transparens, Dendrobium Aphyllum, and Dendrobium Moschatum. The Chairperson, Prof. Kumud Chandra Goswami and senior faculty member, Dr. Arup Goswami initiated the orchid plantation programme. Other faculty members and students of the Centre were also present at the time of plantation.

In the afternoon, the formal meeting to commemorate the day was held. Mr. Gautam Bordoloi, the owner of the famed Kanchanjangha Floating Restaurant located at Bogibeel was the Chief Guest. The meeting started with the Dibrugarh University anthem performed by the students of MTTM. The Chief Guest was felicitated by the Chairperson with a Mishing traditional muffler, a memento of the Centre and a sapling. In his welcome speech, the Chairperson expressed satisfaction on inviting Mr. Bordoloi as the Chief Guest and hoped that his presence would inspire the students of the Centre. He congratulated everyone associated with holding of the event. Thereafter, Mr. Bordoloi in his speech which he delivered in Assamese; he talked about his early life, his struggles and his entrepreneurial journey. It was a very motivating and inspiring speech for the tourism students as well as the other students of the Centre. He had a healthy interaction with the students and answered their queries regarding entrepreneurship and business. The students of MTTM and BBA performed traditional dances for the guest after the interaction which was enjoyed by everyone present. The Vote of Thanks was given by Ms. Tumelo Amelia Tale who is an international MTTM student of the Centre. The programme concluded with the rendering of the State anthem of Assam.

A Digital Poster making competition was also a part of the World Tourism Day celebrations. 20 students from different Departments and Centres of the University participated in the competition. The posters were judged by the Chief Guest, Mr. Gautam Bordoloi. Ms. Garima Gogoi of MTTM 2022 Batch won the competition. She was awarded a cash prize of ₹ 500/- along with a Certificate.
