Observation of National Science Day, 2022 Organized by Dibrugarh University Research Scholars’ Association (DURSA) in collaboration with Department of Chemistry , Dibrugarh University.

On 28th February, 2022, the Dibrugarh University Research Scholars’ Association (DURSA) in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University and Dibrugarh University Debate and Quiz Forum (DUDQF) observed National Science Day at Bishnu Rabha Rangamancha premises. The event was thematized on “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future” and hence the beginning of the day long programme initiated with a plantation drive led by Mr. Bhaba Kumar Pegu (Advisor & ex-President, DURSA). The two “Bokul Plants” for plantation were donated by Mr. Jayanta Kumar Gogoi,General Secretary, Dibrugarh University Employees’ Association (DUEA). The event began with the Dibrugarh University anthem followed by a welcome address by Mr. Bidyutjyoti Dutta, President, DURSA. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. L.K. Nath was present as the Guest of Honour in the programme. Prof (Ms). Geetika Borah, HoD, Dept. of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University delivered an enlightening lecture discussing the importance of National Science Day. Further, the event was supervened by lecture from the Chief Guest Dr. Pankaj Chetia, Dept. of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University who addressed the theme of National science Day 2022 along with the mass sustainability, future conservation of resources and waste management. Following him, Prof Pankaj Das, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Rahul Kar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University also delivered lectures on the urgent need for and importance of developing scientific temperament among the upcoming youths of the future generation.

As a part of this event, a Poster Competition among students of secondary level was organized. The themes of the competition were “Responsibilities towards nature”, and “Science, Technology and innovation for Sustainable Development” for Group A and B respectively. The students showcased the importance, aims, and relevance of the theme during their presentations. In Group A, participants from Nurture International School and Delhi Public School got the prizes. In the Group B, students from DU Model School, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya School got the awards. To encourage the students, the winners of the competition were awarded with certificates and memento trophy. Two awards in the two groups were sponsored by Dr. Anil Kumar, FNA, FASc, FNASc, J C Bose National Fellow, Chief Scientist and Divisional Chairman, Physical & Materials Chemical Division, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune, India to encourage the school students. Dr. Anil Kumar announced the sponsorship of the two awards in the year of 2017 and is continuing till date.

Along with this, an All-Assam Open Prize Money Quiz Competition “Quizzoscope” was also organized which was conducted by Dr. Binod Borah, Deputy Registrar (Academic) and Dr. Jitu Ranjan Chetia, Scientific Officer, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University. After a head-to head competition, a team from Dhemaji Quiz Forum, Jorhat Quiz Forum and one team from Dibrugarh University itself became the winners of the event. Each of the winner teams were awarded with a certificates and prize money. At last, the day-long programme was winded up with vote of thanks by Mr. Bhaskar Saikia, General Secretary, DURSA.
