Department of Physics Celebrates the 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science

According to the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women and only 30% of female students select STEM-related fields. As such an earnest initiative was taken upon by the Department of Physics to encourage girls to build careers in STEM by celebrating the 7th International day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February 2022. They have organized two activities among the students of the Department of Physics–

(I) A poster competition on ‘Your Favourite Woman in Science’.

(ii) A live interaction with two Alumni: Dr. Tamanna Subba, Post Doctoral Fellow, The University of Michigan, and Ms. Pratiksha Priyam Baruah, Ph.D. Fellow, IISER, Pune.

The Director, IQAC, Prof. Kalyan Bhuyan, a professor of Department, Prof. P. K. Bhuyan, former professor of the department along with other faculty members, Research Scholars of the department and the Centre for Atmospheric Studies, and M.Sc. and Integrated M.Sc. students participated in the interaction session. The session has been made public on YouTube for benefit of the other students interested to build a career in STEM.
