One-day Training Programme on PFMS for NSS Programme Officers

The NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University organized a one-day training programme for NSS Programme Officers on Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The training programme was organized at the Indira Miri Conference Hall of the varsity on April 22, 2021 with 52 Programme Officers of various NSS Units of Colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University in attendance. The inaugural programme was graced by Prof. Jiten Hazarika (Registrar, Dibrugarh University) and Prof. Nirode Baruah (Dean, Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University). The welcome address was given by Dr.Devid Kardong, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University wherein he mentioned about the difficulties of holding the training programme in the midst of the Covid pandemic. In his inaugural speech, Prof. Jiten Hazarika mentioned that systems like PFMS are important to fight corruption and are a necessity in the backdrop of RTI. He said that human error can be checked by the proper use of computer systems and hoped that the training programme would benefit the NSS Programme Officers in maintaining the accounts of NSS in a proper way. Prof. Nirode Baruah in his speech appreciated the initiative of holding the training programme as transparency in financial matters is of paramount importance for people handling public money. He also mentioned about the community radio, Gyanmalinee operational at the varsity which he said can be used by NSS to carry forward its activities, especially in creating awareness. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Himadri Barman, Assistant Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University.

The training programme was carried out by Mr. Chinmoy Ghosh as the resource person. He at first deliberated on the importance and the features of PFMS through a PPT presentation. After that, a thorough demonstration of the system was given through the PFMS portal. It is to be mentioned that most of the NSS units have already been onboarded on the PFMS by the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University. Mr. Ghosh also clarified the doubts of the participants.

The valedictory function was held in the presence of Prof. Kalyan Bhuyan (Director, IQAC, Dibrugarh University). A few participants shared their experience of attending the training programme and acknowledged that the programme was beneficial. Prof. Bhuyan in his speech encouraged the participants to hone their tech skills and use the PFMS effectively. The resource person, Mr. Ghosh in his feedback said that he was happy at the level of participation and the interaction. He promised to help the participants in case they faced any difficulties in using the system. The programme ended with a short speech from Dr.Kardong and the customary vote of thanks from Dr. Himadri Barman.
