National Science Day-2021 was observed on 28th February by Dibrugarh University Research Scholars’ Association (DURSA) in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University at Bishnu Rabha Rangamancha premises. The day long programme started with a plantation drive led by Dr. Binod Ch. Borah, Joint Registrar (Academic) and Mr. Jayanta Kr. Gogoi, General Secretary, DUEA. The inaugural session of the main event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Jitu Ranjan Chetia, Scientific Officer, Department of Chemistry which was followed by lectures delivered by Prof. Pankaj Das and Prof (Ms). Geetika Borah, Dept. of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University.
As a part of this event, a Poster Competition among students of secondary level was organized. Prof. (Ms) Geetika Borah, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University has inaugurated the poster presentation event. The themes of the competition were “A Sustainable School Campus”, and “Biomimetics or Biomimicry” for Group A and B respectively. The students showcased the importance, aims, and relevance of the theme during their presentations. In Group A, participants from Oil Valley Girls’ and Boys’ School, DU Model School, and Shiksha Valley School got the prizes. In the Group B, a special prize was awarded to the participant of DHSK College, Dibrugarh. In order to encourage the students, the winners of the competition were awarded with certificates and prize money provided from Prof. Anil Kumar endowment fund.
Along with this, an All Assam Open Prize Money Quiz Competition “Quizzoscope” was also organized which was conducted by Dilip Kr. Sarmah, Sub Editor Asomiya Pratidine. After a nail biting competition, a team from Jorhat Quiz Forum and two teams from Dibrugarh University itself became the winners of the event. Each of the winner teams was awarded with a certificate, prize money and a trophy whereas the other three finalists were awarded with certificate and prize money. The open session of the day started with a welcome address by Seuj Dohutia, President DURSA. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. R.N.S. Yadav, was present as the Chief Guestof the prize distribution ceremony. Prof. JitenHazarika, Registrar, Dibrugarh University delivered an eye opening lecture describing the importance of celebration of National Science Day. Following him, Prof. Dipak Chetia, Dean, R & D, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Diganta Sarma, HoD, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University also addressed the gathering to enlighten the student community with their kind words to highlight the importance of developing scientific temperament in our minds. The day-long programme ended with vote of thanks by JituponGogoi, General Secretary, DURSA.
