A Talk on Innovations and Productivity by Padma Shri Dr. Uddhab Kumar Bharali Organized by Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University in association with Assam Productivity Council, Tinsukia

The Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University in association with the Assam Productivity Council, Tinsukia has organized a talk as part of the National Productivity Week Celebration on February 13, 2021. The programme was held in Bishnu Rabha Rangamancha, the open auditorium of Dibrugarh University. The guest speaker for the talk was Padma Shri Dr. Uddhab Kumar Bharali who inspired the whole crowd with his talk on the theme “Innovations and Productivity”. Mr. B. P Bakshi, Chairman, Assam Productivity Council, Tinsukia was the guest of honour for the event. Faculties and students from different departments/centres of the university and that of PG Students of DHSK Commerce College adorned the event with their gracious presence.

Prof. Pranjal Bezborah, the Head of the Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Ashit Saha, the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Science, Dibrugarh University, and Shri B. P. Bakshi, Chairman of Assam Productivity Council, Tinsukia took the stage to address the audience on the essence of productivity and importance of celebrating the “National Productivity Week”. Praising the unique works on innovation, both on commercial and humanitarian grounds, they warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and speaker, Padma Shri Uddhab Bharali.

Dr. Bharali started his deliberation with a note that his profession is innovation and he started this career way back in 1987. Reminiscing his journey in this field so far, he informed the audience that he had already completed over 161 innovations and had over 118 innovations in his hand to work upon. Requests for his innovations came from across the globe. He advised the students to work continuously and not to stop after their first success. “Every toughest problem has simplest solution”, he added. He believed in finding something which is not yet being made, something which makes life easy. He defines innovation as the application of common sense of  common people. He adds that innovation is not something which is restricted to just science and technology. During his deliberation he stated that whenever a new project comes up, he goes for an extensive research on the topic, only to end up with the simplest solution to the problem. He gave a lot of examples of his innovations, most of which were appreciated by the audience with applause.

Dr. Bharali gave the audience an eye-opening picture on the things which can be easily made at home, thereby reducing expenses and, at the same time, generating employable opportunities. He ended his talk with the saying that “Practice is Learning”. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Chimun Kumar Nath, Associate Professor of Department of Commerce and Honourary Additional Secretary of the Governing Body of Assam Productivity Council.
