The newly established Siu-ka-Pha Chair, Department of History, Dibrugarh University has celebrated Siu-ka-Pha Divas or Asom Divas by organizing an ‘Invited Lecture’ programme on December 2, 2020. The programme was chaired by Prof. Jahnabi Gogoi Nath and inaugurated by Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Hon’ble Vice-chancellor of Dibrugarh University.
The Welcome Speech was delivered by Prof. Nirode Boruah, Chair Professor of Siu-ka-Pha Chair, Dibrugarh University.
Dr. Puspa Gogoi, eminent scholar and recipient of Chaolung Siu-ka-pha award, delivered the invited lecture on topic ‘Siu-ka-pha, Linkage between Northeast India and South East Asia and Social Formation in Brahmaputra Valley’. In his lecture Dr. Gogoi with maps, documentary evidence and illustrations highlighted the multi-faceted linkages between Northeast India and Southeast Asia and how it had major impact in cultural contact and social formation in the Brahmaputra valley since the arrival of Siu-ka-pha in early part of the 13th century.
It was attended by as many as 150 participants comprised of teachers from various departments of Dibrugarh University, students from different academic institutions, members of the Ahom Sabha, Tai Ahom Students Union, and civil society among others. The event was ended with a vote of thanks offered by Dr. Chandan Kumar Sarma, Head of the Dept. of History, Dibrugarh University.
