One Week Online FDP on “Environmental Issues in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry” (2-8 November 2020)

The Department of Petroleum Technology, Dibrugarh University organized a one-week online Faculty Development Programme on “Environmental Issues in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry” from 2nd November 2020 to 8th November 2020. The Inaugural Program for the one-week FDP commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Dhrubajyoti Neog, Coordinator, One Week Faculty Development Programme and was inaugurated by Prof. Minati Das, Dean, Earth Sciences, and Energy, Dibrugarh University. Prof. Tarkeswar Kumar, Former Director, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, and Shri S.D Maske, Former Executive Director, ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Ceremony, delivered a deep insight and enlightening speech on the upstream petroleum industry, oil exploration and production operations, its impact on the environment as well crude oil recovery operations. The Inaugural Ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Borkha Mech Das, Coordinator of the Faculty Development Programme.

The Technical Sessions of the FDP were delivered by eminent Resource Persons who are industry experts from OIL, ONGC, TERI, and Petroleum Engineering Professionals and renowned academicians of the country from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, North Eastern Hill University Shillong, and Anna University, Chennai. The Technical Sessions dealt with discussions based on Overview of oil and gas production operations, Health, Safety and Environmental Management in Oil Industry, Environmental Pollution, Solid Waste Management in Upstream Petroleum Industry, Role of Legal Regime for the Effective Environmental Management and Governance in India, Environmental issues in seismic survey activities, Environmental issues in drilling operations, Disposal & Reclamation of Drilling waste, Bioremediation in oil Industry, Environmental Rules and Regulations for Oil Industry including ISO 14001:2015, Pollution issues in Mining Industry, Regulatory framework on chemical and industrial disaster management in India, Environmental Management, Monitoring and Impact Assessment & Environment Auditing, Petroleum Workover Operations, Well Intervention & its relation with environment, Petroleum Recovery Operations, Environmental issues in Unconventional Resource Exploration & Production, and Challenges in oil and gas safety. The FDP was attended by faculties from different colleges, institutes, universities of the country, MBA Professionals, and other industry participants.

The Feedback responses of the Faculty Development Programme illuminated that the Technical Sessions were highly beneficial and fruitful to all the attendees. The valedictory session of the one-week Faculty Development Programme started with a valedictory speech from Dr. Borkha Mech Das, Coordinator, Faculty Development Programme, followed by overwhelmed Feedbacks from Faculty Participants from different parts of the country.
