SAMPARK: ALUMNI MEET 2020, connecting online…

The Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University has celebrated its glorious 42 years of it’s existence on the 3rd November 2020. Due to the pandemic situation, the department has celebrated it’s Foundation day in a series of events ranging from cultural events to that of alumni meet and most illustrated 2nd ARM Rehman Memorial Foundation Day Lecture on online mode.  On the online platform, Zoom, the 4 daylong programme was a collection of various entertainment and knowledgeable events. The same was also went live over facebook and YouTube. The series of events encompassing Sampark 2020 saw massive interaction and participation from the current and previous batches of the department.

On October 30, 2020; the first day of the Series of Sampark 2020 celebration has witnessed an event with the vocalist of the Department both past and present named as DOC Melody. The hosts for this event were Samrat Bharadwaj and Lipi Bhuyan– both are pursuing PhD in the Department.  An enthusiastic 14 singers of the Department from various batches have performed in the event in front of an overwhelming online crowd.

On October 31, 2020; the second day of the series of Sampark 2020 celebration has witnessed an event with the dancing stars of the Department from present batch to that of yesteryears termed as Blue Sapphires.  The host of the event were Dr. Jutimala Bora , Suraj Das, Nazreen Parveen Ali and Bishakha Chetia. As many as 17 performers have showcased their talents in this online platform in front of a huge crowd both at Zoom as well as Face Book.

November 1, 2020 witnessed the event DU Coeur- an evening with poetic expressions by the alumni of the department. The most important feature of this event was to have an alumnus of the first batch of the Department on this virtual platform.  Hosts for this event were – Mayurakshi Chakraborty and Porishmita Baruah, both are alumni of the Department.

On the Foundation Day of the Department i.e., November 3, 2020; the Head of the Department, Dr Chimun Kumar Nath hoisted the flag in a small Flag Hoisting ceremony organized in the Department by following the COVID protocol to mark the beginning of the day long programme. On the occasion, Samudra Gupta Bharadwaj  an alumnus of the Department from the batch 2009-11 handed over a song in CD which was created and performed by the students of 2009-11 and 2010-12 batches during their PG days and earned several  laureates along with a citation. Later on, the Head of the Department has announced that the song has been accepted as Theme song for Sampark in the event ‘Reminiscence: Direct dil se talk’ where the alumni of the Department went down their memory lane to recollect their eventful stay at the Department, sharing their feelings towards their faculties, courses as well as their batch mates. The event was compared by Rupanjali Kaushik and Bishakha Chetia.

The 2nd ARM Rehman Memorial Foundation Day Lecture was the third event of the day  where Prof. Furqan Qamar, former Vice Chancellor of University of Rajasthan , first Vice Chancellor of University of Himachal and Former Secretary General of Association of Indian Universities has delivered a lecture on New Education Policy 2020 and a roadmap for Higher Education in front of a huge virtual gathering both at Zoom and YouTube. Earlier, Dr Chimun Kumar Nath, Head, Department of Commerce extended the Formal welcome note and the event was inaugurated by Prof. Ashit Saha, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management Science, Dibrugarh University. The event marks the presence of the relatives of Late ARM Rehman. Dr. Bipasha Chetiya Barua who also compares the event, proposes the formal vote of thanks.

The last event of the Four days long programme Sampark 2020 was the event PATANG: Let’s fly in Khula Aasmaan. Patang was a cultural evening, which marks a collection of songs, dance, poem and shayeri recitation, instrumental presentation, memorable videos and sharing of experiences by the Alumni. On a virtual mode, the hosts for this event were Dr. Bipasha Chetiya Barua, Dr. Priyanka Dhanuka, Bishakha Chetia , Mayurakshi CHakraborty Ankit Sen, Porishmita Baruah ,Arpita Saha and Dishina Dutta Roy.  The Four hour long program showcasing different cultural performances came to an end with the ending remark by the Head of Department, Dr. Chimun Kr. Nath.
