To commemorate the teaching of Anthropology in Indian Universities as a holistic study of humankind which began in India at the University of Calcutta in 1921, the Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University organized a two day National Colloquium on ‘Architects of Anthropology in India’ to celebrate the centenary inviting eminent Anthropologists and Sociologists of the country as Resource Personson 12 and 13 March 2020.
Prof. R. N. S. Yadav, Vice-Chancellor (i/c) of Dibrugarh University, inaugurated the National Colloquium and the inaugural session was presided over by Prof. N. K. Gogoi. In his welcome address Prof.Sarthak Sengupta, Head, Department of Anthropology while welcoming the distinguished delegates and participants focused on the broad theme of the Colloquium. Dr. Akhono Sakhrie, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, DU offered the vote of thanks.
Renowned Anthropologist and Sociologists like Prof. K. C. Malhotra (formerly Professor Indian Statistical Institute); Prof. G.K.Kshatriya (Delhi University); Prof. R.K.Das (President, Indian Anthropological Society); Prof. S.R.Mondal (formerly Professor, North Bengal University); Prof. B. Mukhopadhyay (formerly Professor, Indian Statistical Institute); Prof. S. Roy (Professor, Calcutta University); Prof. G. Ranjan (Professor, North-Eastern Hill University); Dr. R.P. Athparia (formerly Superintending Anthropologist, Anthropological Survey of India; Prof. Farida Ahmed Das (formerly Professor, Dibrugarh University); Prof. J. P. Saikia; Dr. Bikash Deka; Dr. Anannya Gogoi Dr. Maitreyee Sharma; Dr. Arindita Goswami; Dr. Geetanjali Devi; Dr. Junali Kropi (all from Dibrugarh University) have participated and presented papers in the colloquium. In the Concluding Session with Prof K. C. Malhotra in the chair, a panel discussion on ‘Anthropology: Future Perspectives’ was organized. The proceedings of the plenary lectures and invited papers presented during the Colloquium would be published in due course of time.
