The 11th Science Writing Workshop conducted by Current Science Association, Banguluru, in collaboration with Indian Academy of Sciences was organised by the Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University from 7–14 February, 2020.
Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, University Grant Commission, New Delhi keenly accepted the invitation of Dibrugarh University to address the participants and broader scientific community of the university over skype on 13th February, the sixth day of the workshop. It was a very productive interaction between Dr. Patwardhan and the participants of the workshop, faculties and research scholars of the university at the Prof S.K. Dutta Memorial Conference Hall of the department from 12 to 1 pm. During this interaction, Dr. Patwardhan stressed on the importance of good quality publications in reputed journals. He alerted the audience against publishing their research work in predatory journals and even mentioned the details about the schemes and the initiatives taken up by UGC for removing these predatory journals from the system. Dr. Patwardhan also answered all queries raised by the participants. The participants enquired about the rules and conditions to be followed while launching a new journal for it to be accepted by UGC. Dr Patwardhan provided detailed explanations regarding all the questions.
The event was honoured by the presence of the Vice Chancellor (in-charge), Dibrugarh University, Dr. Minati Das, Dean, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Energy and HOD, Petroleum Technology, HODs and professors and research scholars of the different departments along with the faculties of the Department of Applied Geology. Prof. L.K. Nath proposed vote of thanks. He immensely thanked the organisers of the workshop as well as the trainers Mr. K. P. S. Madhu and Ms. Geeta Madhu for conducting such a beneficial workshop in Dibrugarh University. Mr. Karunakar Bora, Technical Officer of Dibrugarh University conducted the skype session.
