Workshop on Emerging Role of Statistics in Biological Sciences with Application in R and SPSS

A seven-day long Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata sponsored workshop on “Emerging Role of Statistics in Biological Sciences with Application in R and SPSS” was organized by the Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University from 28th February to 5th March 2020.  A large number of faculty members and research scholars from neighbouring colleges and the host University have attended the workshop.

Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, inaugurated the Workshop and delivered an illuminating speech focusing on the broad theme of the Workshop. The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof.Sarthak Sengupta, Head, Department of Anthropology and the Local Coordinator of the Workshop. Prof. B.R. Sharma, Dean, Science and Engineering, Dibrugarh University also attended the Inaugural Session. Resource Persons, Prof. Sushmita Mukhopadhyay, Professor in Charge, Biological Sciences Division and Head, Biological Anthropology Unit; and Prof. Sabyasachi Bhattacharjee of Indian Statistical Institute also address the participants. The other Resource Persons were Dr. B. N. Pal, Mr. A. Paul, Ms. A. Ghosh, and Mr. A. Mallick. The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks which was delivered by Dr. A.Goswami, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University.

The seven-day long Workshop was an amazing methodical learning experience for all the participants. Scholars from various disciplines representing academic institutes like N.L.B. City College, Dibrugarh; Gogamukh College, Dhemaji; and Moridhal College, Dhemaji. From the Dibrugarh University participants from the Department of Anthropology and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences had taken an active part. On 5th March 2020, the workshop concluded with reflections and feedback from the participants in the Valedictory Session. Professor D. Chetia, Dean, Research and Development, Dibrugarh University delivered the Valedictory Address and distributed the certificates among the participants. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. M. Sharmah, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University.
