Dibrugarh University organized the UGC mandated Swachhata hi Sewa (Shramdan) campaign and NCC mandated Mega Sawchata campaign during 11th September 2019 to 02.10.2019 in association with Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports and 46 Assam Medical Company NCC Dibrugarh University units. During the campaign the University organized special awareness lectures, cleanliness drives, awareness rally in its campus and neighbouring area.
On 1st October, 2019 the University organized a cleanliness drive inside and outside its campus. During the cleanliness drive plastic wastes were collected and put in a central place for disposing off.
Later in the day, a special awareness programme on harmful impact of non-bio degradable plastic was organized at Bishnu Rabha Rangamancha. Dr. Hari Chandra Mahanta the Registrar of Dibrugarh University graced the occasion as the chief guest and inaugurated the programme. Prof. Nirode Boruah, Dean Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University delivered a talk on the need of awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastics. Dr. Jituranjan Chetia from Department of Chemistry delivered a talk on “Use of Plastics and its merits and demerits” as the resource person of the programme. A number of students, faculty members, officers, employees and NCC cadets participated in the programme. The participants also pledged to maintain the cleanliness and to avoid the use of single-use plastics in day do day life. They also vowed to spread the awareness among common people.
