Sixth Late Dr. S.N. Visvanath Memorial Endowment Award Ceremony

Sixth Late Dr. S.N. Visvanath Memorial Endowment Award Ceremony for the session 2018-19 was held in the conference hall of Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University on 24th May, 2019. The award consists of Rupees ten thousands annually instituted by Mrs. Usha Visvanath and other family members of Late Dr. S.N. Visvanath, who had served for 30 years in Assam Oil Company and Oil India Limited till his retirement as General Manager (operation) in the year 1986. The award has been continuously offering to a brilliant student of M.Sc. 2nd semester each year since 2013, on means cum merit basis.  Prof. Kalpana Deka Kalita, Head of the department welcome the audiences and spoke about the importance of scholarships which encourage the awardees to carry forward future studies. Mr. Himanshu Buragohain, a fourth semester student of the department highlighted on the life and achievements of Dr. Visvanath.

In this year, Miss Tamanna Tasrin has received the award from the honorable Registrar of Dibrugarh University Dr. H.C. Mahanta. Dr. Mahanta shared his feeling with the audience and extended his best wishes to Miss Tasrin. Miss Tasrin thanked Mrs. Usha Visvanath for offering the award and assured everyone to continue her journey with honesty and dedication.

Prof. Dipak Chetia, Dean. R & D; Professor Minoti Das, Dean. School of Earth Atmospheric science, Environment and Energy; Prof. Kalyan Bhuyan, Director, IQAC of the university and Mr. Somnath Sarmah, Director, GSI Assam state unit were the eminent dignitaries present in the ceremony.

Mr. Somnath Sarma addressed the gathering and made special mention about the internship and scholarships offered by their organization for the students of the universities.

With a thanking note, Mr. Bitupon Dutta, a student of M.Sc. 4th semester of the department concluded the programme, which was anchored by Dr. Ratamali Machahary, Assistant Professor of the Department of Applied Geology.
