GIS Day Celebrated at Centre for Studies in Geography

GIS Day is celebrated annually on the 3rd Wednesday of November, during the Geography awareness week, across the globe to provide an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society.

The Remote Sensing & GIS Lab (RS/GIS Lab) of the Centre for Studies in Geography, Dibrugarh University has been hosting the GIS DAY celebration since the year 2013. This year’s GIS Day celebration, took place on November 14th 2018, at the Hall no. 4 of Centre for Studies in Geography, Dibrugarh University. The theme for this year’s GIS Day was ‘Discovering the World through GIS’.

More than 78 students participated in the event. The faculty members Mr. Rituraj Neog, Mrs. Juri Baruh, Dr. Biman Lahkar and Mrs. Daisy Rani Hazarika also motivated the students to map using GIS software. A lecture on the Application of GIS was delivered by Dr. (Miss) Shukla Acharjee, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies on Geography. Students were encouraged to map their own villages and towns to contribute to the world database.
