Platinum metal found in Karbi Hills under the aegis of Professor D. Majumdar

The high grade polymetal occurrence of iron, vanadium, titanium and platinum have been found in remote area of East-Central Karbi Hills, Assam. The fact is known during a geological investigation in the area and subsequent experimental works utilizing state of the art techniques, especially the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM-EDS), housed at the Central Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre (CSIC) of Dibrugarh University under the aegis of Prof. Dilip Majumdar of Applied Geology Department.

It is stated that the type of ore is highly priced and very rare. Such platinum bearing ore is found mostly in the Bushveld Complex of South Africa. The Present discovery has brought promises to boost up the State’s economy.
