150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Celebrated in Dibrugarh University

The fraternity of Dibrugarh University celebrated the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi- Father of Nation. The programme was observed on Tuesday, 2nd October, 2018 at Bishnu Rabha Rangamancha in the university campus. The event began with the welcoming of Chief Guest, Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor of the university. Prof. Tamuli lit the lamp and worshiped the Goddess of knowledge, Ma Saraswati as well as paid his tribute by showering the flowers on the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme was preceded by the felicitation of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. Dr. H.S. Atwal, Director, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports, D.U. delivered the welcome address to the gathering. Then Prof. Tamuly delivered the inaugural speech which outlined the significance of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ in the country. He also inspired the young students present in the event through Gandhi ji’s ideology.

The main event was started after Vice-Chancellor’s welcome address. On this occasion, different competitions were organized among the students of neighbouring schools of the university. A lot of enthusiasm and excitement were witnessed among the competitors. Students actively participated in speech, poem recitation, solo song, group song, drama/play and exhibition competitions on Gandhi Ji’s life and contribution to the nation. During the competitions, students of Dibrugarh University performed different cultural activities and one meme related to Gandhi Ji. Dr. H.S. Atwal delivered a valuable speech which enlightened Gandhi Ji’s life philosophy. He also correlated the importance of Yoga in life of Mahatma Gandhi. After competitions, award distribution ceremony was organized and the awards were given away by different renowned personalities of Dibrugarh District. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Rajkumar Bharali, Assistant. Professor, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports, D.U. on behalf of the Organizing Committee. The whole celebration was observed on the guidelines of M.H.R.D. through N.C.T.E. to the Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports, Dibrugarh University.
