COURSES OF STUDY AVAILABLE IN THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS: Post - Graduate Courses: A) General Post-Graduate Courses: (I) M.A. in Assamese, Education, English, History, Political Science and Sociology. (II) M.Sc. in Applied Geology, Chemistry, Life Science, Biotechnology and Physics. (III) M.A,/M.Sc. in Anthropology, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. (IV) M. Com in Commerce. Eligibility for admission: Graduate of Dibrugarh University or any other recognised University under 10+2+3 (T.D.C.) pattern of Degree course in Arts/Science/Commerce securing- (a) At least 45% marks in Major at the Degree Examination. (b) At least 50% marks in the subject and 45% marks in aggregate in case of Graduates offering general course. ** For M.Sc. in Life Science, candidates must have Major in Zoology or Botany with Chemistry as a core subject in the Degree Examination. Candidates having Zoology, Botany and Chemistry as three core subjects at a B.Sc. stage may also apply. Preference will, however, be given to the candidates having Major in Zoology or Botany. ** For M.Sc. in Applied Geology candidates must possess First or High Second class Major in Geology with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry in B.Sc. ** For M.A. in Sociology candidates securing at least 40% marks in Major in Sociology, or 50% marks in the subject (Sociology) in case of general course with 45% marks in aggregate. Subject to availability of seats after admission, candidates who fulfill the above norms (candidates with 45% marks) in Major in any subject other than Sociology as securing a minimum of 45% marks in Sociology as a core subject at the Degree Examination. ** For M.A./M.Sc. in Statistics candidates securing 40% marks in Major in Statistics may also apply. It is always advisable to go through the Regulations regarding a course before enrolling in the same. Duration: M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. Course - Two years, divided into First, Second, Third and Fourth Semesters. For further details consult the Dibrugarh University Regulations for the M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. Course in the Semester System. Examination: The M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. Course in the Semester System follows a method of continuous evaluation. In-Semester examinations are held from time to time and End-Semester examinations are held at the end of each Semester. Dates for examinations will be notified by the Controller of Examinations. B) Technological Post-Graduate Course: (1) M.Tech in Petroleum Technology : The AICTE recognized M.Tech. in Petroleum Technology Programme consists of two distinct Course run simultaneously in the Department of Petroleum Technology. Course-I : Petroleum Exploration and Production : Entry Qualification : B.E. or B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering or M.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics. Course-II : Petroleum Refining and Petro-Chemical : Entry Qualification : B.E. or B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering or Petrochemical Engineering, or M.Sc. in Physics/Organic Chemistry. Duration : The Course consists of 4 (four) Semesters with a total duration of 2 years. (2) M. Tech. in Petroleum Geology. The AICTE recognized M. Tech. Course in Petroleum Geology is conducted by the Department of Applied Geology. Eligibility for Admission : M. Sc. in Geology Securing at least 55% marks. Preference will be given to GATE/NET qualified candidate. Duration : The Course consists of Four Semesters with a total duration of 2 years. The session usually starts from 1st August every year. C) Professional Post-Graduate Course : (1) M. Ed Eligibility for Admission : Candidates must obtain atleast 50% marks at the B.Ed/B.T. Examinations of Dibrugarh University or any recognised University. Duration : One Year. (2) M. Pharm. The AICTE recognized M. Pharm Course are conducted in three streams run simultaneously in the department of Pharmaceutical Science : I) M. Pharm in Pharmaceutics II) M. Pharm in Pharmacognosy III) M. Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry Eligibility for Admission : Candidate must have passed B. Pharm Examination with minimum of 55% marks from AICTE recognised Institute/College/University. Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates. Master of Business Administration (MBA) The AICTE recognised MBA (full time) is conducted by the Centre for Management Studies. The Course is two years duration divided into four Semesters. This condition shall not be applicable in case of candidates who have passed the All India MBA eligibility test like MAT/IMAT/CAT. Method of selection : There shall be a an admission test, scheme of which will include written test, group discussion and Interview. Duration : The Course consists of four semesters with a total duration of 2 (two) years. b. Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Part time course) Eligibility for Admission : Any graduate having at least 2 (two) years experience at Supervisory level in any Govt. Semi Govt., Non-Govt. organisation. Self employed graduates having above mentoioned qualification and experience shall also be considered. Method of selection : There shall be an Admission test in the form of written test of 250 marks. Duration : The Course conducted in the Annual System shall be 3 (three) years duration. Course conducted by the Department of Education (approved by the MHRD. Govt. of India as India as a CTE) is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Eligibility for admission : Graduate of Dibrugarh University or any other recognised university with - i) Atleast 45% marks in Major or in aggregate at the First Degree 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidate. ii) Candidates must have a valid B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (CET) Score. iii) Graduate in Arts/Commerce/Science in case of in service teacher candidates deputed by the Government of Assam. (iv) A weight age of 5% above the mark actually secured in Degree level will be given to the teacher candidates with minimum five years teaching experience in a School recognised upto 10th standard by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam. Note : A student admitted to the course shall not do any other job during the regular teaching hours and shall not enroll as a student for a course in any other Department of this university or any other University. Method of Selection : Selection is made on merit basis taking into account the performance at the admission test marks at the first Degree and earlier examinations. Number of seats : i) 50 seats for direct admission from eligible candidates (Pre-service). ii) 40 seats for Assam Government deputed teachers (in-service) Note : Number of seats in subject to changes as per NCTE recommendations. There is provision for Endowment Seats. Duration : One year (August-July) Examination : B. Ed. examination consist of written examination, internal assessment and practical. A candidate shall be declared to have passed if he/she both the theory and practical examinations. (2) B. Pharm The B. Pharm Course conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical sciences is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well as pharmacy Council of India (PCI). Eligibility for admission : (a) candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Science Examination of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or any other examination recognised as equivalent securing at least 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Those who have passed the Diploma in Pharmacy Examination from the Pharmacy Council of India (P.C.I.) recognised institutes of Pharmacy of Assam securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate in the final examination may also apply against the reserved seat for Diploma holders. (b) Attained at least the age of 17 (seventeen) years on the 1st October, in the year of admission. Number of seats : The 20 seats (8 seats from Assam and 2 each from the six other State of N.E. region) Note : Number of seats is subject to changes as per AICTE & PCI recommendations. Vacant seats, if any may also be filled up under payment eategory. Method of Selection : Purely on merit basis. Duration : four Years. Examination : there shall be an annual examination at the end of each academic year for each part and shall be known as first Year B. Pharm, Second year B. Pharm, third Year B. Pharm Examination and B. Pharm Final Examination. Note : For details consult 'regulations for the four year bachelor of Pharmacy Degree course of Dibrugarh University. (3) Bachelor of Computer Science (BCA) : The three years BCA course is conducted in the Centre for Computer Studies. Eligibility for Admission : HSSLC (10+2) examination passed with Mathematics and securing at least 45% marks. Method of Selection : Selection for admission shall be made through an admission test or on merit basis as determined by University Relaxation for SC/ST/Other backward classes shall be as per existing rules Duration : 6 (Six) semesters covering three calendar years. (4) Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) : The BBA course is conducted in the Centre for Management Studies. Eligibility for Admission : HSSLC examination passed with Mathematics and securing atleast 50% marks. Method of Selection : Selection for admission shall be made through an admission test or on merit basis as determined by the University. Relaxation for SC/ST/Other backward classes shall be as per existing rules. Duration : 6 (Six) semesters coverage three calendar years. (5) Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.L.I.Sc.) : THE B.L.I.Sc. course is conducted in the centre for Library and Information Science Studies (CLISS) Eligibility for Admission : Candidate should possess at least a Bachelors/Master degree of Dibrugarh University or any other University recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in Major/Aggregate. Made of Selection : Selection for admission will be made on the basis of academic performance, marks obtained in an admission test and Viva-voce to be conducted by the centre. Duration :One year. E) Diploma Course : 1. Post-graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) Course : The centre for Computer Studies conduct the PGDCA Course. Eligibility for Admission : Graduate in any discipline with 49% marks. Method of selection : On Merit basis Admission test may be conducted if required. Total Seats : 40 (excluding 5 Endowment seats) Duration : 1 (one) year. 2. Two Year Integrated Tai-Language Diploma Course : Eligibility for admission : A Bachelor Degree holder in any discipline. Duration : Two Years. Admission Procedure : There shall be an Admission Test in the form of written test (150 marks) group discussion and Personal Interview. Post Graduate Diploma in Finance (PGDF) / Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing (PGDM) Course : The PGDF and PGDM course are conducted in the Department of Commerce. Eligibility for admission : Bachelor Degree in any discipline other than fine Arts, Music, Dancing and Allied areas. Duration : One year. (Two Semesters) Admission Procedure : There shall be and Admission Test in the form of written test (150 marks) group discussion and Personal interview. F) Certificate Course : (1) Certificate Course on Computer Application : Eligibility for admission : A Bachelor Degree holder in Engineering/Technology or a Bachelor Degree in any discipline. (2) Certificate Course on Computer Concepts. The Centre for Computer Studies of the University conducts a Course on Computer Concepts. Duration : 2 (Two) months. Eligibility : Any student who have passed Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) or any equivalent 10+2 level examination is eligible for admission to the Course. G) DoE Courses : (i) DOEACC 'O' Level (ii) Repair and Maintenance of P.C. hardware and (iii) Repair and Maintenance of Electronics Equipment. Eligibility for admission : Must have passed HSSLC (10+2) Examination in any discipline with minimum 50% marks. (Minimum 45% marks for permanent residents of Assam). Duration : One year.
