Welcome to Dibrugarh University

Dibrugarh University, the easternmost University of India was set up in 1965 under the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University with limited residential facilities. The University is situated at Rajabheta at a distance of about five kilometres to the south of the premier town of Dibrugarh in the eastern part of Assam as well as India. The University is located in a campus of 203 hectares out of which 74.3 hectares are under tea plantation.

The University has territorial jurisdiction over seven districts of Upper Assam, viz. Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji which are spread over both the banks of river Brahmaputra. The geographical jurisdiction of the University covers 21,706 sq. m, which is about 28 percent of the total geographic area of Assam. Keeping in view of the diverse needs of the region a set of goals and objectives had been laid down in the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965. Among them the most important one is "to provide for instruction (including correspondance course) and research in the humanities, science and technology, education, medical and other professional subjects and in others spheres of learning and knowledge, of a standard and thoroughness required and expected of a university of the highest standing, and to secure the advancement, diffusion and extension of knowledge in all spheres of learning."
